Mira Co Rescue - Art Evolution and Poll!

Edit 9-26-24:  Added Progressive Peril Thumbnails.  This was quickly thrown together for example purposes and is just conceptual art.  The amount of sprites shown may not be the final amount per peril either, just examples.

Added Gif example of an 'animated battle sprite' which is an extremely old looping animation I did back in 2014.  I will be creating something to use as an actual example later.

Added an additional poll gauging interest in amount of characters.

Hello Everyone!

Making this a separate post so it doesn't get lost in the potential bug fix edits on the 0.5.2a devlog.

As I previously mentioned in the devlog, I am leveling up my artwork and am curious where to go from here with what I learn.

I created an art evolution image attached to this post showing the first images drawn back in 2018 to the Collective Mothership standard sprites in 2023 and a doodle I did on stream last night for 2024 featuring Mira and Selena.  It is pretty crazy to see how Mira Co Rescue started in terms of battle sprites and what it looks like in the Collective Mothership.

I've created a poll to gauge interest in how I am evolving artwork for battle sprites in the future.  These won't necessarily be applied to Mira Co Rescue as the system has already been established but for things in the future.  The poll can be found here.

Speaking of which, if there was every a Mira Co Rescue 2 or other future project what sorts of things would people prefer to see?  As it stands, Mira Co Rescue was a project where it initially started as a learning experience to develop a game that has the forever scope creep of not actually having a complete design document from start to finish.  With the addition of the Khrono Tomb, the game could arguably be finished given the current content that exists but there are still many plans that I want to implement, though that is the forever spiraling scope I mentioned.

Having a game with multiple characters allows for more variety along with many enemies keeping things fresh; however, if I were to do another game in this genre I would approach it differently giving it an actually drawn out plan of start to finish and what content would be in the game.

Would people want to see the Mira Co Rescue cast in Mira Co Rescue 2 or entirely new characters in another setting?  One setting is Magical Girl Milfs but that's a story for another time.

Anyways, always looking to evolve things moving forward as I balance work and hobbies.  Let me know what you think in the comments below on what you think!

Remember to drink plenty of water, rest up, and take care of yourselves!  Until next time.

I enjoyed Mira Rescue Co. on account of how it actually has/had a major bondage and kink focus, rather than many other adult games that try to appeal to so many fetishes that they end up providing only half-inch-deep content for practically all of them.

Although I adore Magical Girls, I'm personally not a fan of "MILFs." I do see below that it was intended as an example rather than a New Thing, though. Overall, I'd honestly say you've gotten enough credit for this game that I'd at least try whatever you put out next, whether that's a continuation of this, MRC 2, or something new.

(This did remind me that I had yet to actually pay for this game, however, so fixed that.)

On a related note, I didn't answer the poll as the number of "playable characters" is highly dependent on what you're trying to do. I will note that you can, say, have a main character with a party of a few supporting characters - and doing so does give much more leeway with game balance in a turn-based strategy due to more events in a given turn, so if someone is sub-optimal in one way, it can be compensated for by the acts of other party members.

Whatever you decide on, though, I'll definitely request that you continue the trend of "defeat scenes available even on a victory." Not needing to lose on purpose lest I miss content is always nice.

Thanks! The peril bondage kink is something that will certainly carry over in my projects, so no worries there.

Thanks for the support!

Having the main character with supporting character allows various roles and opportunities to see more peril during combat too so I like having the variety.

And I'll always have the defeat scenes and gallery be unlockable by beating content and not purposely losing to see everything.  If people want to lose they can and there will always be ways to 'retry' and not send them to a permanent game over screen.  Thanks for commenting!

To me it dosnt really matter much if you end mira co rescue sooner or later, but i would defently be trying the mira co rescue 2 if you made that, thats for sure. other that that, i dont really think i matters much to me what you make, if it still has the same kinds of themes im going to try it no matter what.

Whatever I work on next will have the same kinds of themes going on as Mira Co Rescue, although hopefully with a bit more refined focus.

I agree with the first paragraph of what Bondage Queen said as it's been a long time since you last worked fully on Mira Co Rescue and with the fact that you haven't had a game design document made up will mean it's going to be hard enough making sure it's all wrapped up, let alone add more on to it.

For your next game as I'm personally not for MILF's I'm not for then them being the main focus of it. However it will be your game, your project and thus you whom should be in control and deciding what happens with it. No point in starting a new game with a setting you hate or aren't on board with. Although how well a continuation of Mira Co Rescue goes depends on how you wrap it up otherwise Camo or mention in conversation or newspaper of sorts is probably best to do at most in the next game.

Something you should do with the next game when making the game design document is consider if RPG Maker is the engine you want to use still or not and look for other games that have done similar mechanics to what your wanting to do. E.G in-depth bondage escape system like Didnapper series has.

Hope this has helped.

Yeah, the MILF magical girl setting was just a potential project to put an example forward rather than it just being 'a new project.'

I've been considering different engines and have been looking into other games with similar mechanics.  A big one is Magical Girl Luna's Misfortune by Namasute Kobo, although that one features only one character.  Always interesting in seeing what the community has been up to since I first started this project and people have made all sorts of wild things.

Thanks for commenting!

I've wanted to play Magical Girl Luna's Misfortune but from what I can tell/see due to reviews and previous is that there's a lack of sexual content or bondage depth to it alongside the combat being the very classic "mess up one move on purpose and your defeated" rather than fight to win and make multiple mistakes to be defeated.

Didnapper 2 as I've referenced already I've liked since I found the XP from battles too lacking that I changed the difficulty to make them easier which if they didn't do so I would be disliking the game more since then I would have found the grind too high to not cheat to a degree so I don't need to spend a while grinding XP/levels. I did also get persuaded to play it from seeing the Overkill Mod which changes the escape scenarios to have a few more positions and include vibrators and nudity to it.

Would STRONGLY recommend Magical Girl Luna. I also didn't have high expectations going in and the game blew me away. It's my favorite bondage game to this day, and that's coming from someone who doesn't like lolis (if you consider Luna a loli).

Worth noting the game starts rather slow and gets better and better. Everything from the end of the chapter 3 to the end of the game (which even includes an optional bad end dungeon) is pure gold to me.

Hm I'll give it another look then....though I might look at finding an save passed chapter 3 then to give it a go with before starting fresh.

Taking inspiration from Luna will never be a bad idea. Though a big part of what makes Luna so good is the story and characters as the game progresses. There's just a lot of love put into it.

I personally think it would be best to wrap up Mira Co Rescue sooner rather than later (just tie up loose ends and add an ending), and go next. It feels appropriate given your new resolve to improve as well as all your superior skills compared to when the project started. I think, generally, if you can look back at the start of a project and go 'whoa whiplash, I'm way better now,' that's a good time to put a cap on it and start anew!

As for the next game, I would personally LOVE magical girl milfs as a setting. Super underutilized given how popular superheroines and magical girls are. Love that idea. So yeah I'd prefer a new setting, but if you do choose to stay in the same universe as Mira Co, I'd like to see original characters featured and letting the Mira Co girls cameo. Just my two cents as a long time follower :)

Yeah, while I still have a lot of ideas to put into Mira Co Rescue and have plenty of planned content, the quality is so varying from start to current content it would probably be best to start fresh.

I agree that it is a surprisingly underutilized.  Since Mira Co Rescue would potentially be ending, I think moving to something completely different would be best for the next project.  Mostly testing the waters to see what folks think.

Thanks for offering your opinions!

Yeah that's good thinking imo. And since you've been gone for so long, awareness of your work is at a low point, which makes it even better timing to start something new XD

Depending on the nature of the ideas and planned content, maybe could see if it translates well to the new setting?

(Also if enough people aren't into the MILF angle, could consider just making them younger but still with that body type XD)

I'm not personally into the MILF angle myself due to it seems MILF's are portrayed as having larger assets and being a bit wrinkly alongside usually games with them putting the "mommy" personality into them. (Which is understandable because of the M part of MILF being Mom)

Not to say I haven't ended up like MILF characters but it's been a rarity for me as those previously mention things appear to occur enough to tempt me to consider blacklisting the tag.

I mean, I say MILF but I guess I just mean an older woman with more curves.  Mira and Selena in the 2024 have slightly  more curvy body types but this was a concept art I drew of such topic with an older magical girl.  In this case they were a mom though.  (It's almost like the games are starting to reflect my age...)

Not sure if this is exactly what you didn't enjoy.

Ah yeah....the picture example you have provided is where I would consider to look for something else or go back to previous art if it all switched to this example as yep the assets are too big for me personally. :S

Ooh, I personally love it! Not sure about the plastic-looking glasses, but body type, yes!

I'd say go for it, both because you like it and because (at least, it seems to me) this style is underrepresented. Most of these games feature quite young looking girls (in many cases, suspiciously young).
